each year, The Salvation Army provides over 10 million nights of shelter to those in need

A safe place to sleep.  It sounds so basic, but for millions of people, having a safe place to sleep may seem like a luxury. 

How we help provide housing

The Salvation Army has shelter services in Manatee County that provides: 

  1. Emergency Overnight Shelter for those in crisis 
  2. Case-managed housing shelter programs designed to provide stability for those experiencing homelessness and working toward a goal of finding safe, stable and permanent housing. 

Emergency shelter serves men, women and families and is accessible 365 days/year at 1204 14th Street West.  

  • Individuals seeking shelter must be 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent/guardian.  
  • Intake begins each night at 6 pm and ends at 8 pm or when capacity is reached.   
  • Emergency shelter clients must depart at 6 am (Women/Families) or 7 am (Men).   
  • Manatee County residents receive seven free nights of shelter.   
  • Non-Manatee County residents with a state issued id receive three nights.   
  • A fee of $15/night will be charged for anyone entering shelter after the free nights have been used. 

Case-managed shelter programs provide a stable, secure environment for clients while completing case plan steps with the goal of exiting to safe, sustainable housing.  Clients are required to secure employment, attend life skills classes, create and live by budgets and follow program rules.   

Additionally, shelter programs are operated in conjunction with several agencies to provide shelter for designated and qualified individuals.  The agencies include: 

  • Veterans Administration 
  • Department of Correction 
  • Drug Court 
  • Local Law Enforcement
